June 21st – It’s kind of a big deal because it’s a big day for yoga all around the world. Wednesday, June 21st is International Day of Yoga and the Summer Solstice. The Summer Solstice can vary between Jun 20 and June 22. I believe the Summer Solstice this year is technically June 20, regardless, this week marks the longest days of the year and both International Day of Yoga and the Summer Solstice are celebrated with the yogis. Why? In short: Back in December 2014, the United Nations set June 21st as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131 (Thanks Wiki!) The International Day of Yoga was created to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. June 21st was selected because it’s the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere (give or take a day) and June 21st has special significance in many parts of the world.
