Guidance to Empower Your Yoga Practice

Lindsay StretchLindsay Gonzalez is a local 500 HR E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) and SUP (Standup Paddleboard) athlete. With authentic sincerity, Lindsay delivers guidance to empower your yoga practice. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to take one of her SUP yoga classes hosted by Altitude Paddleboards and prAna Denver.  More recently, I took Lindsay’s PodFlow All Levels class at Yoga Pod Cherry Creek.

The SUP Yoga class was my first SUP Yoga and I was admittedly uptight. I was concerned about falling off the board. But why? Lindsay reminded us to celebrate falling in the water and to cheer for those around us who pushed their edge and fell in. It was fun to cheer for others, BUT, I still fought allowing myself to fall despite my inner voice telling me to let go.

Lindsay sup groupLesson learned: Celebrate falling! When you fall, you adjust, grow and succeed- and what a metaphor for life, huh? Present goal: Celebrate “the fall”. Next summer’s goal: Fall in the water as much as possible during SUP Yoga.

When I joined Lindsay’s studio class at Yoga Pod Cherry Creek, her unique teaching style became even more apparent. (Probably because I could finally relax and forget about falling in the water!) She moved around the room with grace and offered hands on assists that combined perfectly with her words of encouragement: “You’re in charge,” You got it,” “Side Crow – Let’s get it today!” These were just a few impactful cues from Lindsay.

She made sure the class was accessible to all and challenging for students with more experience. It’s not so much what she said – Anyone can say this shit. It’s how she said it and when she said it. Lindsay’s words aren’t forced or rehearsed. As a yoga teacher, I find this skill to be the most challenging to hone. As a student, I could do the same yoga poses over and over again. It comes down to delivery – how a teacher cues is how a teacher inspires.Lindsay Surf

Lindsay has an undeniable charismatic spirit: kind, fun and adventurous. When she’s not in the yoga studio she is out exploring Colorado and the rest of the world taking on adventures like paddleboard sports, surfing, hiking, skiing, road-tripping, camping and beyond. I vote Lindsay to win “Denver’s most cool yogi award”. There is one coming up, right?

I asked if she would join me, and, without hesitation, Lindsay was in for a bear rug #instamoment, proving that she is not only an incredibly talented and compassionate instructor, she also has a great sense of humor. Lindsay is the kind of person you want to hang with by the YogaPod fireplace. Her positive vibes are infectious! Watch a recording of our live periscope interview.
